Oh my God, the Electric Six were AMAZING.
I was soooo impressed by the frontman, Dick Valentine. His stage presence was something else and he managed to be so horny even though he looks like a cross between John Cleese and Benecio Del Toro in Fear and Loathing. The whole of their set was top quality, I can’t wait for the album. I MUST go and see more bands, live music is just the best.
Went on the anti war march on Saturday with Boudicca. Am glad I went, it was definitely good to be part of the event. They reckon that there was one representative from every house in the country. That’s really amazing. What I found nice was that it was so peaceful and calm. If anyone bumped into you (which happened quite a lot as there were two million there) they immediately apologised. That sort of behaviour was very refreshing for London.
I think it’s because there were lots of people there from out of town. They were quite easy to spot, as they had sensible leisure wear on and were mostly holding banners about Quakerism. (In our bit of the march anyway) It did get extremely cold though, and I soon found myself envying their anoraks and woolly hats. (Note for future life: There are actually times when fishnets and a skirt slashed to the thigh are not that appropriate, even when teamed with a cute army jacket and slouchy suede boots)
I then got to work and found that the Box office system had crashed (again) and there was a big crisis on. It was all good though, cos the Front of House team pulled together and we ended up with an happy audience, even if the promoters were a bit bootfaced. I like it best when things go wrong, that’s when I’m in my element as a manager I think.
Then I went home, drank some Absynth (our new favourite tipple) and watched the Ike and Tina Turner movie. It very much appealed to my feminist sensibilities (Go Tina, Go Tina), and I went to bed happy.
On Sunday I went for a pub lunch with the family. (Luce, Kevverr and Captain Egg) We found a nice pub by the river in Limehouse and ate very expensive roast lamb (£8 a head). Actually, Egg had the veggie sausages, which I thought was a bit weird, but there you go.
Last night we all descended on a Vietnamese restaurant off Old Street. Helen bought the household a treat dinner cos she lived under the stairs for a few weeks. It was the nicest night ever, we all got really drunk as we went for cocktails before at Soma and the food was just out of this world. It was just such a good atmosphere, I am really lucky to have such good friends. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier in my life.
